| Description |
English: Pilots' Quay, Lundy This is the point on the west side of Lundy Island where Bristol Channel pilots would board the gigs to take them out to incoming ships. It's a wild and inhospitable place, only recognisable as the quay by two sets of steps - one on the north side, carved from the granite, the other on the south side cast in concrete. No doubt these were used according to the wind and sea direction. The place is accessed by a broken set of granite steps down the hillside. Only this point is in SS1243, and is only shown on the 1:25,000 map. The square looks to be 'all at sea' on the 1:50,000. |
