English: Pines on the North Downs. The line of Scots pines on the horizon stands along the northern edge of the square. The very pale field in the foreground indicates how very little topsoil there is on the downs which were traditionally grass grazed by sheep and cattle. Looking slightly east of north from the Pilgrim's Way. The wooded area on the right is Mile Hill. |
