Summary edit
DescriptionPittosporum multiflorum plant DC2.jpg |
English: Orange Thorn (Pittosporum multiflorum) is a spiny native shrub which can grow to 3m tall, but is mostly less than 1m tall in the Common.
Its frequent along Common Creek and the S-SE side of Hungry Hill. Its preferred habitat is in or near rainforest or wet sclerophyll forest, on shales or well-drained volcanic soils. It can be recognised by its branches bearing numerous slender spines mostly arising from leaf axils and leaves being rounded, small (3–12 mm long) and toothed. It is a useful habitat species for small birds and the orange fruit are listed as edible, but as one person observed "I did taste the fruit and I can’t say it was delicious, in fact I had to spit it out". |
