A rare picture of the North Side Point Bridge (Manchester Bridge), on the left, and the Point Bridge, on the right, both demolished in 1970. The Allegheny River (top) and Monongahela River (right) meet here to form the Ohio River, which flows off to the left. Point State Park is in the foreground. It was the site of Fort Duquesne (French, 1754) and Fort Pitt (British, 1758). This 1968 photo is geotagged. Fort Duquesne Bridge, the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," is visible behind the Manchester Bridge. It has its approach roads on the far side of the Allegheny River still under construction. It was featured in another photo in this set. |
