Description

This is a glacial erratic - a large boulder left behind by a melting glacier (in this case, by the Pleistocene Laurentide Ice Sheet). It occurs near the summit of a high sandstone bluff in Lancaster, Ohio, USA. The rock itself composed of Precambrian-aged gneiss, a foliated, high-grade metamorphic rock.

Locality: near the summit of Mt. Pleasant, Rising Park, Lancaster, central Fairfield County, southeast-central Ohio, USA (vicinity of 39° 43' 27.98" North latitude, 82° 35' 39.06" West longitude)
