Description
English: This carved stone coat of arms is on the east side of the family burial vault at St Peter's Church, Britford. It is the arms of the Pleydell-Bouverie family who have long associations with Salisbury. The first Earl of Radnor was William Pleydell-Bouverie (1725 -76) the most recent, the 9th Earl of Radnor (b. 1955) whose seat is Longford Castle. The motto reads Patria cara carior libertas and is usually translated as "My country is dear but liberty is dearer".
