| Description |
A new sign from Romtelecom schematically shows new telephone codes. The map also shows the Judetul or counties with their two letter identificatio code which also appeared on vehicle registrations. Eg 40= Tulcea. TL. Postal codes were completely different. Telephone Codes for the area outside Bucharest were only introduced in 1993, hence this map, which interestingly carries a note about the short lived code 0179 for Ilfov county the posh suburbs around Bucharest, which is now included in Bucharest. 01. Interestingly, Moldova is also included in the overall system, with a code of 02. It seems that the changes took effect on 25 March 1994 at 11pm. |
