| Description |
English: Plymouth Civic Centre Suffering from severe corrosion of its reinforced concrete frame, amidst plans by the council to demolish it, this building was controversially given a Grade II listing by English Heritage in 2006, thus preventing the demolition from proceeding. According to English Heritage it is 'one of the most important civic centre buildings of the 1950s in the country. In addition to its technical architectural merits, the building symbolises the energy of Britain emerging after the devastation of World War II and shows the hope and aspirations of that newly confident Plymouth.' |
