Deutsch: Vorderseite: MARIA SKŁODOWSKA CURIE -/ Ra. Büste der Marie Curie nach links. Rechts die Darstellung des Elements Radium.

Rückseite: POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA - ZL 100 ZL. Umschrift, unten Nominalbezeichnung, im Feld der polnische Adler, beiderseits 19-74. Unten rechts bei der Adlerklaue das Münzstättenkürzel M/W.

Kommentar: Die Münze wurde anlässlich des 40. Todestages der Nobelpreisträgerin Marie Skłodowska Curie geprägt. Die Auflage betrug 50.000 Exemplare. Maria Skłodowska Curie (1867 in Warschau-1934 bei Passy), Physikerin polnischer Herkunft, prägte das Wort „radioaktiv“ und erhielt für ihre Forschungen anteilig 1903 den Nobelpreis für Physik und 1911 für Chemie. Sie entdeckte gemeinsam mit ihrem Ehemann Pierre Curie die chemischen Elemente Polonium und Radium. Sie hatte als Frau und Wissenschaftlerin mit vielen Vorurteilen zu kämpfen. Noch 1911 wurde ihr die Aufnahme in die französische Akademie der Wissenschaften verweigert. Ihre Tochter Irène Joliot-Curie erhielt 1935 den Nobelpreis für Chemie, gemeinsam mit ihrem Ehemann.
