DescriptionPort Pirie Junction (Solomontown) platform with Trans-Australian (loco GM19) and East-west Express, 17 Jan 1964 (Lindsay Bridge).jpg |
English: In the era in South Australia when railway lines had been built to different gauges, passengers had to change trains at Port Pirie Junction (also named Solomontown) platform. The Commonwealth Railways standard-gauge train, the Trans-Australian from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia is on the left; the South Australian Railways broad-gauge East-west Express to Adelaide is on the right. Many people are captured in this photo — working, talking, or waiting at the unofficial pathway to the platform before the driver reverses his diesel locomotive (GM19) with the automotive carrier cars attached. |
