Portlaoise, County Laois, Ireland
English: Path to the Burial Ridge. From the nearby plaque of the Portlaoise Heritage Trail: The Ridge, comprissed of a great bed of gravel and sand, runs from near Timahoe to beyond Tullamore. It was formed by an esker (glacier or ice stream piled up in its course) from the Ice Age. The Ridge was used as a road from the earlist times. The Burial Ridge has been used as a burial ground since the 17th century and it is believed that there was a church on this site. |
