Species Sora (Porzana carolina)

Remarks A sharp call from one bird that was being chased off by another while foraging on the surface vegetation at the border of typha marsh and open water. Observed from an observation deck at the end of a wooden walkway through the marsh. There were a large number of Soras in the immediate vicinity (they were moving through in large numbers on migration). 5-10 birds were almost always foraging in sight and many more hidden in the cattails, which resulted in quite a few squabbles between individuals. Unfortunately, a fair amount of traffic noise from a nearby highway, though some low-frequency noise was filtered out.
