Description

Greetings from National Marine Fisheries Service in New Jersey. New Jersey is home to several thriving commercial fishing ports posting landings of nearly 100 million pounds in 2006. Personnel from NOAA Fisheries work closely with the local fishing community. A great deal of our work takes place at docks up and down the coastline collecting biological samples for age and growth studies. The boats seen in the background are geared up for harvesting sea scallops which typically end up in regional markets, including Philadelphia and New York City, in a matter of hours after being landed.
