Title
Post Medieval lead alloy medallion
Description
English: Post medieval lead alloy medal?, 34mm in diameter and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition and is decorated on one side within a slightly raised border. there is a small tear or nick in one edge, possibly suggesting it may have had a cord protruding from it.

The object depicts what appears to be a harbour scene with two quays jutting out into the sea with ornate buildings at the end of each, with pointed triangular roofs and circular motifs for windows. The two quays form a rounded harbour which has in its centre a large ship which appears to have a domed structure in its centre and shields displayed along its side. in the foreground are at least five ships in full sail and other smaller boats surround these.

Mr Paul Cannon has provided this info,

I believe this is probably a commemorative piece depicting the capture of Portobello by Admiral Vernon in 1739. The depiction of the harbour, buildings and ships is so distinctive. For a copper-alloy version recently added to the database see YORYM-1710E2 but there are quite a few others. There are very many varieties.

The copper alloy one listed above is very clear and is inscribed

Obverse: THE.PRIDE.OF.SPAIN.HUMBLED.BY.ADMIRAL.VERNON
Admiral Vernon standing right with Don Blas kneeling left with ship behind
DON BLAS IN RIGHT FIELD

Reverse: HE.TOOK.PORTO.BELLO.WITH.SIX.SHIPS.ONLY
Portrayal of Porto Bello and six ships.
Below: Nov (reverse barred N).22.1739.
