The Nelson post office was built in 1902 and was intended to house the post office, customs and inland revenue offices. In 1910 an addition was added on in order to give the offices more space. The building underwent another addition in 1939, however there still was not enough space and in 1962 the post office moved to another building. Currently the old post office is the home of Touchstones Nelson, a museum, archive, and art gallery.
