Summary edit

Description
English: Pot hole eroded on top of Kestor Rock These natural potholes occur on all the granite moors of SW England [Dartmoor, Bodmin and Penwith] and are called rock basins. Its thought they are formed over thousands of years by water freezing, with the ice breaking off grains of the granite as it expands. Explanations of the processes involved can be found in the geology fact sheets of DNPA http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/index/printableresources/lab-factsheetshome/
