Summary edit
DescriptionPower house, Prince Charles hospital, Gurnos - geograph.org.uk - 684900.jpg |
English: Power house, Prince Charles hospital, Gurnos During the 1960s and 1970s there was a brief fashion in Wales for installing reciprocating steam engines in hospital powerhouses to generate electricity and to use the exhaust steam in laundries and for heating. By the late 1980s they had all been removed again. This pair was built by Belliss and Morcom in Birmingham in 1974, stopped in 1986 and were removed in 1988/9. The photograph is 50:50 time exposure and flash from a Mecablitz 60CT1. The colour cast is due to the contribution from the fluorescent tubes. In the 1980s there were several multi-engine power houses and they have all gone or are incomplete.
