Arabic manuscript on green, orange, blue, plum and brown paper, 7ff. each folio with 9ll. of naskh using contrasting yellow, mauve, white, orange, light and dark blue, and gold ink, against spiralling gold meander, gold rosettes between verses, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated heading, final folio inscribed in gold Muhammad Vali Mirza and signed in mauve Ahmad Shamlu and dated Safar 1224, margined with cream paper with outer gold floral border, good condition, maroon morocco binding Folio 9 x 5½in. (22.7 x 14cm.); 5 5/8 x 3¼in. (14.2 x 8.2cm.)

Muhammad Vali Mirza, the fourth son of Fath 'Ali Shah, was born in 1203 (1788-9 AD) and died in 1281 (1864-5 AD) at the age of 79. A Qur'an dated 1227, and other works dated between 1219 and 1249 were copied by Ahmad Shamlu Mirza for the same patron.
