Summary edit

Description
English: Preserved London Transport bus BL1 (reg. KJD 401P), a 1976 Leyland engined Bristol LH midibus with 39 seat ECW bus bodywork. At 7ft 6in wide and 30ft long, the BL class were chosen by LT to satisfy a need for narrow buses that the Leyland National couldn't meet. BL1, the first of the class, entered service at Sutton garage for use on routes 80/80A. It survived in London on various routes longer than most of the class, even serving as a showbus for Sutton and Edgware garages. As the class finally became redundant due to introduction of the Dennis Dart, BL1 was one of the last survivors of the class in fleet sized route service, on the 251 out of Edgeware, which were finally withdrawn in 1981. BL1 again stayed in London, being one of the few retained for use in training fleets. By the time of privatisation of the London Buses business units, BL1 was part of the training fleet at Alperton garage (code ON). As such it duly passed into the ownership of First Centrewest London Buses Ltd in 1994. It was finally withdrawn in 1997, and was bought for preservation by the London Transport Museum. It's pictured here at the musem's depot in Acton, still wearing Centrewest training bus livery.
