Français : Portrait présumé de Mlle George en Allégorie de la Nuit, 1818, attribué à Alexandrine Delaval "Inscrit dans un ovale, le modèle de profil tourne la tête vers la gauche. Un voile blanc étoilé est attaché par une épingle à motif de papillon au sommet de sa coiffure relevée en chignon. Un pendant d’oreille orné de trois perles et un large bracelet d’or et de pierres vertes complètent sa tenue. Le fond sombre, les étoiles et le papillon – attribut de Psyché – renvoient au vocabulaire symbolique de la nuit. Datée de 1818, l’œuvre pourrait représenter l’une des plus célèbres actrices du temps : Mademoiselle George. De son véritable nom Marguerite-Joséphine Weimer, la tragédienne, modèle récurrent des peintres de son époque, a 31 ans à l’époque de ce portrait. Cette peinture, réapparue comme attribuée au peintre Anne-Louis Girodet, montre indubitablement l’influence de Regnault. Les lettres ADL, entremêlées mais clairement lisibles, correspondent aux initiales d’Alexandrine de Laval qui fut l’élève de ce dernier. Si l’on peut retrouver régulièrement le nom de cette artiste attaché sous la forme Delaval, il fut souvent d’usage sous la Restauration de détacher la particule de son patronyme."
