Summary edit
DescriptionPrimary efflorescence durastop 1 of 2.jpg |
English: Picture 1 of 2: Primary efflorescence on small Durastop firestop mortar sample, before being brushed off. Primary efflorescence merely shows salts that are not bound within the forming cement stone, deposited on the surface of the mortar as a result of the heat of hydration, which is the result of an exothermic reaction from the cement's being mixed with water. It can simply be brushed off. Being that mortars made with hydraulic cements are inorganic, there is nothing inside the substance that can rot or degrade. This is simply a process of structurally irrelevant inorganic matter being pushed out through a low-energy physico/chemical reaction.
