DescriptionPrince Arthur's Book Armorial.png |
English: 'Prince Arthur's Book', College of Arms, MS Vincent 152, temp. Henry VIII with Dethick additions c.1580. Some arms pre-1485, when Thomas Stanley, 2nd Baron Stanley (c. 1435-1504) was created Earl of Derby. Here the arms of the Earl of Derby are shown not as Argent, on a bend azure three buck's heads cabossed or (Stanley) but as as the royal arms of Plantagenet, which are the arms of Henry Bolingbroke, 3rd Earl of Derby (1367–1413) (from 1399 King Henry IV), or earlier royal holder. Ordinary of lions showing the similarity of early arms, which would have reduced their efficacy as a means of identification in battle. The book was the property of Prince Arthur (1486-1502), Prince of Wales, eldest son of King Henry VII and older brother of King Henry VIII.
