Caption from Catalogo Generale dei Beni Culturali

"Data la mancanza dei numeri d'inventario, non è possibile ricostruire la provenienza e la catena inventariale per questo dipinto. Raffigura la principessa Maria Felicita di Savoia (1730-1801), figlia di Carlo Emanuele III e di Polissena D'Assia, rimasta nubile, secondo un'iconografia largamente diffusa. La scritta moderna sul retro, che riporta evidentemente quella antica, ci fornisce il nome di Giovanni Panealbo, con la data 1786 e Moncalieri come luogo di esecuzione. Tra i documenti riferiti al pittore torinese registrati nelle Schede Vesme (1968, v. III, pp. 772-775), compare quello del 1786 per un ritratto di Madama Felicita portato a Moncalieri; andrà perciò verificata l'eventuale provenienza del quadro da quel Castello. La scritta indica poi che la principessa è ritratta a 36 anni, mentre nel 1786 ne avrebbe avuti già 56. Al Castello di Racconigi è conservato un ovale, sempre attribuito al Panealbo, uguale per iconografia ma con Maria Felicita a mezzo busto.
