ound the walls of thistemple thirty-four statues of the Goddess of Victoryare stationed. They are designed to call to ourremembrance how the thirty-four states of Germanyjoined hands and triumphantly freed the empirefrom the French domination. Oh to see again thebeauty of thy lovely fountains, and walk besidethine ancient picturesque houses, and cross thyquaint bridges, and see thy river, over whichLongfellow has cast the glamour of his poeticgenius! Who knows thee not, thou ancient And greatly honoured town,Where Diirers art won triumphs And Sachs songs renown ? It is very interesting to arrive at Nuremberg atnight. In the glow of morning how the city burstsupon us with all its wonders ! Twenty years ago, before it began its mighty march of progress as anindustrial centre, one felt
