Description
English: A paddler prepares his canoe at the "provisional" head of navigation of the Wolf River (near its confluence with Tubby Creek) in the upper part of the Holly Springs National Forest in Benton County, Mississippi. It is considered the provisional head of navigation because area canoe enthusiasts regularly attempt to discover put-ins upstream of this location.
  • This was taken at the beginning of Day 2 of the first known full descent of the Wolf River, undertaken by members of the Wolf River Conservancy. Day 1 was all hiking and wading 18 miles along Wolf from its source at Baker's Pond (also in the Holly Springs National Forest). *The river flows north from here into West Tennessee's Fayette County and then into Shelby County, where it spills into the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis.
