Summary edit

Description Polyurethane foam, illegally used in a cable tray through-penetration in a wall required to have a fire-resistance rating, mid 1980s, Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, Canada. Instead, there should be a firestop, where the installed configuration matches the appropriate certification listing. PU Foam is a DIN 4102 B3 material, "easily ignited". As a "foamed plastic" it must not be used in an exposed manner in noncombustible buildings in Canada, and certainly not in place of a firestop. This has led to a significant fire at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (Tennessee Valley Authority).
