Summary edit

Description

Carved wooden pulpit dated 1880, on an earlier, carved Caen stone pedestal, in St Mary, Barton-Upon-Humber, Lincolnshire.

The carving of the leaves on the pedestal is similar to that on the font in St Peter's in the same town. The pulpit pedestal at St Peter's was carved by Catherine Mawer to match its 1859 font (which is still there), but the pedestal is now missing. So this Caen stone pulpit base may have been removed from St Peter's to St Mary's, perhaps between 1859 and 1880.
