Summary edit
DescriptionNeozephyrus quercus - geograph.org.uk - 884058.jpg |
English: Purple Hairstreak (Neozephyrus quercus). A small butterfly which is quite widespread but seldom seen because it lives high up in oak tree tops. The adults mainly feed on honeydew, and according to Butterfly Conservation are only driven down to the ground to seek fluid and nectar during prolonged drought. There is no drought in 2008 so we must assume this one came down to court publicity, as it settled right next to a wildlife group out surveying (you'll never guess) Hairstreaks. |
