| Description |
English: Pyl Brook: Derwent Road Flood Storage Area Pyl Brook flows beyond the embankment in the distance but in front of the distant houses, which are on Derwent Road. The embankment has a couple of low sections and during a flood event the water spills over these, out of the brook, and begins to fill up the flood storage area in the foreground. At the downstream end of the pond are 690798 which allow the stored flood water to gradually rejoin the brook as the flood subsides.
This is also the Derwent Floodwash Local Nature Reserve and the boardwalk and platform (fenced area just to the left of the tree), next to the small marshy area and pond on the left, were built to enable local school pupils to use the site as an outdoor classroom for environmental education. |
