Description
English: Maltese cuisine is a unique blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences. The island of Malta, located in the Mediterranean Sea, has been ruled by a variety of cultures throughout its history, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, and British. Each of these cultures has left its mark on Maltese cuisine, resulting in a diverse and flavorful food culture. In fact, maltese cuisine is heavily influenced by the sea, as fish and seafood are staples in the Maltese diet. Popular seafood dishes include lampuka (dolphin fish) and octopus stew or cooked octopus with olives.
