English: Quarry tramway embankment from Crossflat Sidings This tramway embankment is one of the Muirkirk area’s former lines not yet fully investigated by this photographer and his railway rambling friends. It is being viewed from the footpath on the Caledonian line from Lanark and is obviously higher than that railway. Latterly, whenever that was, it probably ended in some form of tipping dock alongside a standard-gauge siding but there was some evidence to suggest that it might once have extended north of the railway line (i.e., behind the camera) to reach Baird’s Muirkirk canal. Whether its southern end was at the mound below the trees alongside Crossflat farm or whether it continued through the trees to a potential quarry marked on the map further south has yet to be discovered.
