Français : Diapason à quartz
English: 32768 Hz quartz crystal resonator, removed from its metal case, from a quartz clock or watch. This is the device that is the timekeeper in quartz timepieces. It consists of a piece of quartz shaped like a tiny tuning fork resonator, with metal electrodes plated on either side which attach to a crystal oscillator circuit. When electric power is applied, the two arms of the fork vibrate rapidly, apart and together, 32768 times per second. This creates an oscillating electric signal in the circuit of this frequency, which is divided by electronic counters to provide pulses to advance the hands or digits of the clock |
