Object history

This item is listed as donated to Brighton Museum by the then curator, Herbert Samuel Toms, in 1917. The other items in the donation are local archaeology and there is no explanation of why this item from Bechuanaland is included in the group.

Toms was an archaeologist and Curator of the Brighton Museum from 1896 to 1939, previously he had worked as an excavation assistant with Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers

Collections from the Bechuanaland Protectorate, now the Republic of Botswana, are the focus of the 2019 Making African Connections research project.
