Description
English: An aircrewman peers out of a Merlin helicopter during Exercise Merlin Vortex, in preparation for a deployment to Afghanistan.

The Merlin is the newest helicopter in the RAF inventory, the first of a new generation of advanced medium support helicopters. The helicopter is a three-engined, all-weather, day and night multi-role helicopter that can carry freight or troops and provides vital support to ground operations in Afghanistan.

This image was a winner for SAC James Stier in the 2010 RAF Photographic Competition.
