Description
English: A Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4 in flight over Lithuania

Four Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4 aircraft have arrived at Siauliai Air Base, Lithuania to take part in the NATO Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission.

The deployment forms part of a series of measures taken by NATO to support and reassure its Eastern member states. BAP is a standing NATO task undertaken by rotations of typically four air defence fighter aircraft from contributing nations. It is a purely defensive mission. The RAF last participated in BAP in 2004/2005 with Tornado F3s.

The RAF’s Typhoon is used to provide air policing within UK and Falkland Islands airspace as part of Quick Reaction Alert. A multi-role aircraft, it is capable of being deployed in the full spectrum of air operations, from air policing through to high intensity conflict.
