Stamp of Romania; 1975; commemorative stamp of the issue "2000 years City of Alba Julia"; (German name: "Weißenburg"; district capital in the region Transsylvania); stamp motive with two Roman coins and an old Roman tablet from "Apulum"; stamp postmarked
Note:
"Apulum" was a Roman fort in or near the contemporary town Alba Iulia. The errection of this fort began in 106 A.D. during the reign of Emperor Trajan for the "Legion XIII Gemina" of the then Roman Army which was to that time garrisoned in "Vindoborum" ( = Vienna) after the Second Battle of Tapae in 101 A.D. in the course of the Dacian War between Trajan and the Dacian king Decebalus. The building lasted probably to 132 A.D.. The order for this Legion was it to watch and to guard the "Golden Way" from Dacia to Rome. The castelllum was considerable enlarged under Emperor Hadrian.
