Italiano: STATUA MU'PO - I volumi del corpo sono massicci, le gambe aperte, le braccia piegate a toccare le spalle. La testa poggia su un collo robusto e presenta bocca spalancata, occhi globulari, grosso naso e guance gonfie.
Le figure mu'po sono possedute dagli indovini che le utilizzano per conoscere passato e futuro e nella lotta contro la stregoneria, di cui si fa carico la società ""segreta"" maschile ku'n'gan (Harter 1986). Il ventre prominente rimanda alla fertilità delle donne e della terra. Talvolta presentano una cavità ventrale nella quale viene inserita la ""medicina"". Le statuette più piccole vengono portate in mano nel corso di danze rituali, mentre le più grandi vengno esposte pubblicamente in occasione di particolari cerimonie (nggu). La storia di una persona e suoi eventuali relazioni alla stregoneria passano dal suo ventre e per questo i Bamileke (gruppo di cui i Bangwa fanno parte) nei casi sospetti erano soliti ricorrere all'autopsia per scoprire la verità delle cose. |
