Summary
editDescriptionRachel Cameron and Henry Legerton in the Kirsova Ballet Les Sylphides, Max Dupain Studio, Sydney, between 1941-1944 - photographer Max Dupain (5728216631).jpg |
English: After the Russian Ballet tours of Australia 1936-1940, some settled here. Edouard Borovansky and Helene Kirsova each established a company with which Cameron danced principal roles, becoming one of Australia's first ballet dancers to reach this rank. The Borovansky company eventually became the national Australian Ballet through some fortuitous proceedings. After dancing here with the visiting Ballet Rambert, Cameron left for London in 1948 where she danced, but eventually became a respected teacher of ballet at the Royal Academy, and later a guest teacher for the Australian Ballet, the Scottish Ballet and Israel's Bat-Dor company. Vale Rachel Cameron, 1924-2011
