lectric transportation has been com-pleted on the Pennsylvania railroad be-tween Broad Street station, Philadelphia,and Paoli. The work embraces the elec-trification of about 20 route miles, withabout 93 miles of track. The system iswhat is known as the overhead catenarytrolley system; the power is supplied di- nection between the power house and thesub-station consisting of armored sub-marine cables under the river. From the sub-station there are four44.000-volt single phase transmissionlines. Two lead into the West Philadel-phia sub-station, and two of them con-tinue on to the Paoli sub-stations. Thetransmission lines are carried on brackets electric service without structuralchanges. This was made possible by thefact that the requirements for mountingelectric apparatus on the cars had beenthoroughly considered at the time whenthe steel car was introduced on the rail-road.
