Summary edit

Description
English: Photograph of the Rameshvara Temple at Pedgaon, taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s. Pedgaon is situated in the modern state of Maharashtra in the district of Ahmadnagar. The town was an important Islamic settlement demonstrated by the fort and many of the buildings that can be found there. The fort was built by Khan Jahan in 1673 and is roughly a quarter of a mile square. Most of the Islamic buildings are now ruined. The many temples at Pedgaon such as the 'Lakshmi-Narayan' or the one shown in this photograph demonstrate that there was also a strong Hindu element living there. The Rameshvara temple is completely ruined, the shrine being the only part that is still standing.
