Description

RandstadRail is een lightrailproject in Zuid-Holland. Een van de belangrijkste kenmerken van het project is de koppeling van voormalige spoorlijnen (Zoetermeer Stadslijn en Hofpleinlijn) aan het tramnetwerk in Den Haag respectievelijk het metronetwerk in Rotterdam. De invoering van RandstadRail heeft er toe geleid dat reizigers met de langste exploitatieverstoring in Nederland sinds 1945 zijn geconfronteerd: een jaar na het beëindigen van de exploitatie door de Nederlandse Spoorwegen en negen maanden na de geplande opleveringsdatum zijn reizigers tussen Den Haag en Zoetermeer en Nootdorp nog steeds op vervangend busvervoer aangewezen.

Na twee ontsporingen op 29-11-2006 bij Forepark en Ternoot werd de RandstadRail tot nader order stilgelegd. Tussen Rotterdam Hofplein en Nootdorp wordt wel nog gereden. Er is vandaag (24-08-2007) nog geen datum bekend waarop de dienstregeling zal worden hervat.
