Summary edit
DescriptionRapid erosion at Chilling Cliff - geograph.org.uk - 1606412.jpg |
English: Rapid erosion at Chilling Cliff. This is a very active section of the coast. Since the summer of 2005 the rate of erosion as reported by the School of Ocean and Earth Science at Southampton University has been measured at 2 metres per annum. One of the observation posts, shown in Peter Facey's picture 91689, taken in 2005 is no longer there. Talus, forming below this cliff is transported east by longshore drift and has formed a bank, diverting the course of the stream from Brownwich Pond, turning it through almost 90 degrees as can be seen in Graham Horn's picture 1145130. |
