Realistic rogue wave model

| Description |
English: Rogue waves (freak waves, killer waves) - abnormally high waves that occur in the open ocean and are dangerous for shipping. Unlike tsunamis, gaining their destructive force in shallow water, rogue waves appear where the depth is significant. To simulate rogue waves, a Nonlinear Schrödinger's Equation (NLSE) is used, various simplifying assumptions allow different models to be built. The figure shows the simulation result obtained by reducing the NLSE to an ordinary differential equation for the wave amplitude and solving this equation with different initial
conditions [1] [2]. A slight change in the initial conditions makes it possible to constuct a wave of unusual height instead of the usual wave "swell". The parameters of the model are selected in such a way that the result roughly corresponds to the parameters of the huge wave recorded in 1995 at the Dropner oil platform, located about 100 nautical miles off the coast of Norway
Українська: Хвилі-вбивці - аномально високі хвилі, що виникають у відкритому океані та становлять небезпеку для судноплавства. На відміну від цунамі, які набувають руйнівної сили на мілководді, хвилі-вбивці з'являються там, де глибина є значною. Для моделювання хвиль-вбивць використовується нелінійне рівняння Шредінгера, різні спрощувальні припущення дозволяють будувати різні моделі на його основі. На малюнку зображено результат моделювання за допомогою зведення нелінійного рівняння Шредінгера до звичайного диференціального рівняння для амплітуди хвилі та розв'язання цього рівняння з різними початковими умовами [1] [2]. Незначна зміна початкових умов дозволяє отримати замість звичайних хвильових "брижів" хвилю незвичайної висоти. Параметри моделі підібрані таким чином, щоб результат приблизно відповідав параметрам величезної хвилі, зареєстрованої в 1995 році на нафтовій платформі "Дропнер", що розташовувалася приблизно за 100 морських миль від берегів Норвегії
