Description |
Illustration showing a Red-headed woodpecker (Picus capite toto rubro) perched on a branch of Water oak (Quercus folio non ferrato). The head and neck of this bird is deep red, all the under part of the body and rump being white, as are the smaller wing feathers. When the wings are closed, these join to the white on the rump and make a broad white patch across the lower part of the back, the upper part of which is black. The male and female are similarly coloured. Rare Books |
