The anterior surface of thescrotum and labia majora is supplied by the ilio-inguinal and genito-crural nerves, sometimes by the iliohjpogastric nerve also. Thesenerves originate chiefly from L and L-.

The coccygealplexus is distributed to the posterior part of the anal region. The most important point brought out by the foregoing resume isthat the pudendal plexus is almost solely responsible for pain in thepelvic organs, perineum, and external genitalia, and that it can bereached by injecting all the sacral nerves. But it must not be forgottenthat the surgical procedures carried out on one of the pelvic organs GENITO-URINARY AND RECTAL OPERATIONS 403 are unavoidabl)- and indirectly extended to the structures to whichthese organs are attached. It is, therefore, necessary for certain majoroperations to make provision for a much wider zone of anesthesia thanis actually needed for the organs alone. The routes of approach of thepelvic organs must also be considered
