Comprende la península Ibérica, las islas Baleares y las costas del norte de África. Pertenece a una de las ediciones de la obra "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum", publicado por primera vez en Amberes en 1570, editada por Aegidius Coppenius Diesth y dedicada a Felipe II, de quien era cartógrafo real. Marco con rotulación de grados y subdivisiones de 10´. Señalados los puntos cardinales en holandés y latín. Meridiano origen en la isla de Hierro (Islas Canarias). En el ángulo inferior derecho aparece una cartela arquitectónica incluyendo el título del mapa; en el ángulo inferior izquierdo se sitúa la escala gráfica en leguas, coronada por un compás. Relieve representado por perfiles de montañas abatidos e iluminados. Planimetría con ciudades importantes representadas por agrupación de edificios. La hidrografía representa la red principal, con denominación de los ríos más importantes. La costa aparece realzada con rayado horizontal e iluminada, y el mar mediante punteado decorado con peces fantásticos y naves. Abundante toponimia, en latín y castellano. Rotulación en letra romanilla hueca, romanilla e itálica. Datado durante el reinado de Felipe II (1556-1598). |
