Summary edit
DescriptionRemains of copper mine, Yarner Wood - geograph.org.uk - 831845.jpg |
English: Remains of copper mine, Yarner Wood The remains of the engine house at what seems to have been known as Yarrow Copper Mine.
The mine operated from 1858 until 1865, producing about 2300 tons of copper. The chasm in front is the engine shaft. A notice explains that "after a huge rainstorm in February 1978, the cap on the shaft collapsed by about 50 feet, forcing mud, stones, timbers and water out through a side adit, blocking the Pottery Leat". |
