Summary edit

Description
English: Remains of lime-kiln. This is the "possible lime-kiln" that is mentioned in the Canmore database (see the end-note; the grid reference given at the Canmore link does not match this location exactly, but please bear in mind that it was recorded in the 1970s, without the benefit of modern GPS technology).

As my photo shows, there is a pit built into the side of a NNE-facing slope. It is about 3 metres in diameter, and its wall is open on the downhill side, with a scattering of stones in front of the opening. Those stones, presumably the remains of the kiln itself, are not visible in this view, but are shown here: 1232840 (that photograph more or less shows what is just out of shot, on the right, in this one; it was not practical to show the whole structure in a single picture).

Compare 1249364. The lime-kiln ruins that I have encountered so far in the Dunbartonshire area all appear to be fairly similar in design; they are circular, with a diameter of about three metres. I later encountered an example where a relatively intact section of the original wall is visible: 1622205.

Auchincarroch Hill (1232781) is visible in the background, left of centre.
