Summary edit

Description
English: Remains of the Railway Bridge at Killuney, Armagh. On Wednesday, June 12 1889, a terrible accident, usually referred to as the Great Armagh Railway Disaster, took place close to Armagh on the line to Newry and Warrenpoint. This disaster was the result of a collision at Killuney between the runaway rear portion of a Sunday School excursion train bound for Warrenpoint. The runaway carriages, as they rolled backwards, built up speed because of the gradient and then collided with the oncoming passenger train to Newry. Eighty-eight adults and children died and about 400 were injured.
