Description
English: Battle of Bailén 19 July 1808 : the defeated French army surrendered to General Castaños, Commander-in-Chief of the Spanish Army. The negotiations took place at Villanueva de la Reina, about 10 km SW of Bailén, in the stage post (Casa de Postas, originally built in 1766), replaced since then by this present building (now a café-restaurant-pensión).

It stands along the ancient road linking Granada to Cordoba (Madrid to Cadix), now the autovia A4/E5.

Easily reached from either direction, but approaching it from Bailén, exit 310 km, provides the more striking view.
